Less lawn … more interest

Less lawn … more interest

We come to live in our homes and our gardens,

and may not have the benefit of a landscape we love.

But with a vision of what “could be”,

we can get there!

Here is the “before” photo of this typical foothills property in Rescue.

The view is beautiful, but coming off the back patio, which is just outside a formal living room and dining area, there was not a “draw” that called the homeowners out into their landscape. Using our extensive questionnaire, with questions regarding lifestyle, and entertaining, we discovered that our clients wanted a bit of “formality” and structure. We achieved this for them by adding seating walls, planters, a water feature, dg paths, and an interesting area to work in the garden or simply enjoy from the patio or interior rooms.

This project was a “work in progress” as the clients decided to have their son install this addition to their landscape. Working weekends only, it took about a month and a half to complete the planters, walls, dg path, and lighting. Another weekend of planting and the mature photo you see is after 18 months.

Update ….. I was  just out to see my clients and they have done some wonderful things with their plantings and subtle design features. We worked on all of these together … but I was unsure when I might see them!!! Here they are for your enjoyment.

Mixing it up! I love it!

Gravel, stones from the pasture, and a full array of drought tolerant plantings.

Don’t blame your dogs!

It is natural for them to run through your planting beds.

Give yourself and your best friends a break with a dog run.

More gravel, flagstone, groundcovers, and native plants.

And at the end of the day,

every foothill property,

needs a place to swing and enjoy the view.

This was a gift from their children.

I’ll be out for a swing soon … very soon.
