A Word about Lighting

A Word about Lighting

Lights in the garden serve many purposes, from practical to romantic, with strategically placed lights, you can transform the ordinary landscape into something that looks almost magical. In addition to creating an ambiance, lighting in a landscape offers other advantages. It can:

  • Highlight special specimen plants, nicely shaped trees and shrubs
  • Create dramatic shadows on paths or walls
  • Make it possible to entertain outdoors on fair evenings
  • Provide a safe entry or exit by deterring intruders
  • Illuminate pathways

By changing the position and angle of your outdoor lighting you can achieve a variety of effects.

  • For a dramantic effect, position a floodlight so that the light is driected upward, toward the tops of trees.
  • Add charm, with purposeful lighting of a fountain or water feature.
  • Create a romantic, moonlight effect by placing lights high in trees and direct the light downward.
  • Lights behind trees and structures can cast intriguing silhouettes.
  • Always place lights close to steps and sloped areas for safety and security.
  • Position fixtures in inconspicuous places – so the light – not the source – is the emphasis.

These are just a few of the many ways appropriate lighting will effect your garden. Depending upon the value of your home, your plans, and your budget, there is a light for every situation, at all price points.
