As it is with most new construction, when the clients first contacted me the backyard was all dirt. It had been graded, without any elevations or interest.
My clients, a couple in their mid-40’s with no children, wanted an elegant, formal, easy to care for landscape. This picture reflects the initial phase of the project.
Retaining walls mirror the stone on the residence. Three, tall, black pots were turned into bubbling water featutes as a corner feature of the project. Podocarpus along the back wall (evergreen, drought tolerant, sun tolerant), as well as ferns, grasses, and agave keep it simple. Several 24 inch box trees were planted (maples) for seasonal color.
The simplicity of this design is elegant and relaxing.
